Alpha Fern Sommerville, 94, longtime Seminole resident passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Seminole Care and Rehabilitation Center in Seminole. Alpha was born January 17, 1916,at Waynesville, Missouri to James Marin and Lillian Ethel (Fleshute) Haltman. Alpha moved to Seminole from Tulsa in 1941. She was married to Rex G. Sommerville on May 23, 1934 in Mineral Wells, Texas. Rex was longtime co-owner of Sommerville-Swearingen-Arnhart Funeral Home in Seminole. He died on May 15, 1991. Alpha was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole where she was active and a member of the Wedding Ring Class. She also helped decorate the church’s Christmas tree during Christmas time. Alpha worked at the Society Editor for the Seminole Producer for a while and later owned and operated Alpha’s Accessories shop in downtown Seminole. Alpha is survived by her Son, Phillip Sommerville of Seminole, Oklahoma, one sister, Thelma Smith of Rulo, Nebraska, two Grandchildren Vanessa Conn and Tiffany Stokes and five great grandchildren, Mercedes, Mason, Miles, Leo and Samantha. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rex and a Grandson Mark Sommerville. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M., Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary O. Wilburn officiating. Interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery.
