Alice Kernell

November 9, 1926 — June 6, 2014

Alice (Brown) Kernell, 87 year old lifelong Seminole County resident, passed from this life on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Chickasaw Medical Center in Ada, Oklahoma.  She was born November 9, 1926 in Seminole, Oklahoma, to parents Jeffie Brown and Annie (Jones) Brown. Alice grew up in Seminole County were she graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1945.  On November 14, 1948, she married Robert Kernell in Bowlegs, Oklahoma.  The couple were members of Mekusukey Baptist Church where they were both very active.  Sadly her husband, Robert, preceded her in death on October 27, 2010 after 62 years of marriage. Alice was a proud member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma where she was member of the Mekusukey Band. Alice was a resident of Ballard’s Nursing Home in Ada, Oklahoma, where she had been given the best of care since April 14, 2014.  The family will be forever grateful to them for the outstanding care. Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Johnson of Bowlegs, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Michelle Hamilton and her husband Hershel of Ada, Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Caitlin and Ryan Hamilton all of Ada, Oklahoma; and a host of other family and friends. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Jeffie and Annie Brown; her husband, Robert Kernell; one son, Robert Kernell who died in March of 1993; one brother, Raymond Brown and by her former son-in-law, Ronald Johnson. A wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 9, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Rev. George Harjoche and Amon Burgess officiating the service.  Interment will follow at the Brown Family Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest by her husband. Casket Bearers will be: Hershel Hamilton, Michael Narcomey, Robert Colbert Jr., Randall Walton, James Narcomey and John Narcomey. Honorary Bearers will be: John Brown, A.J. Brown, Mike Brown, John Kernell, Donald Narcomey, Glynn Cornelius and James Jones. Funeral Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
