Aldean Harris

Retha “Aldean” (Phillips) Harris, 87 year old longtime Little, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born June 3, 1931 in Okemah, Oklahoma to parents Virgil Phillips and Willie Lee (Davis) Phillips. Aldean graduated from Wilburton High School in 1947.  On May 14, 1950 she married the love of her life, Patrick Harris Sr. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Following her husband’s retirement from B&G Construction and Robert J. Harris Construction companies in 1981, they moved their family to Seminole County, Oklahoma. The couple joined Highway Baptist Church in Little, Oklahoma in 1975.  Aldean served the Lord in many different capacities.  She taught Children’s Church for 55 years while at the same time teaching a Children’s Sunday School Class.  Aldean was also a very devoted cook for many years when the youth went to Falls Creek Church Camp.  She attended services until her health started to fail and even then she checked out of the hospital, made some cookies and had her minister take her to Falls Creek to deliver the cookies. Aldean loved to cook, garden and truly enjoyed spending time with her family. Aldean leaves to cherish her many memories four sons, Michael Harris Sr. of Seminole, Oklahoma, Russell Harris of Seminole, Oklahoma, Dr. Dennis Harris and his wife Gay of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Scott Harris and his wife Melinda of Lufkin, Texas; one daughter, Linda (Harris) Russell and her husband David of Seminole, Oklahoma; one daughter-in-law, Robyn Harris of Shawnee, Oklahoma; one sister, Isabel Liles of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Pool of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Betty Harris of Midwest City, Oklahoma and  Ann Harris of Florida; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends, including her Church Family at Highway Baptist Church. Aldean was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Willie Lee Phillips; by her husband of 57 years, Patrick Harris Sr. who died May 8, 2007; by one son, Patrick Harris Jr. who died May 26, 2012; by one daughter-in-law, Teri Harris who died December 25, 2016; by two grandchildren, Michael “Mikey” Harris Jr. and Yavette Henshall. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 3, 2018 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating the service.  Aldean will be laid to rest by her husband of 57 years Patrick Harris, Sr. at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers will be: Michael Harris Sr., Russell Harris, Dr. Dennis Harris, Scott Harris, Patrick Harris III and David Russell. Honorary Bearers will be Aldean’s grandchildren.
