Gordon Dean Maxey, of Edmond, Oklahoma, entered eternal life on November 1, 2021, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, following his courageous battle with throat cancer. He died on his 63rd birthday. The son of the late Jesse Dorsey Maxey and June Alice (Reynolds) Maxey, Gordon was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, on November 1, 1958.
Gordon graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in Edmond, Oklahoma, in 1976, where he played on the basketball team. He then attended the University of Central Oklahoma. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Gordon worked for many years in construction, assisting his parents in the homebuilding business. Later, he worked in the food service industry as a waiter. Being that he was such a people person, customers came in requesting that Gordon take care of them. Also, Gordon enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was an avid sports fan. He was a big fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and he loved horse racing.
Gordon is survived by his three children, Lynette Morris and husband Billy, Dustin Maxey, Joshua Maxey, and grandchild, Jerrica Maxey; brother Mike Maxey of Edmond, OK, sister Debby Samaras and husband Tom of Coppell, TX; niece Audrey Samaras and nephew Trent Samaras; his Aunt Fay Reynolds Truesdell of Shawnee, OK, and Aunt Maxine Reynolds of Oklahoma City, OK; as well as many cousins, other family members, and friends.
Services will be held at the Church of Christ at Little, 11526 N. Hwy 99, Seminole, Oklahoma, on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gordon’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
